Chakuli pitha and Mutton curry is a delicious and hearty dinner combination that is sure to satisfy your taste buds. Chakuli pitha is a traditional dish from Odisha, India that is made with fermented rice and lentil batter. It is typically served as a breakfast or snack dish, but it also makes for a great dinner option when paired with a flavorful mutton curry.
Preparing Chakuli pitha is a simple process. The batter is made by soaking rice and urad dal (black lentil) overnight, then grind them to a smooth batter along with fenugreek seeds, and let it ferment for 8-10 hours. Once the batter is ready, it is cooked on a non-stick pan to make a thin and crispy crepe.
Mutton curry, on the other hand, is a delicious and flavorful dish that is prepared with tender mutton pieces cooked in a spicy gravy made with a combination of spices, herbs, and other ingredients. We do prefer the traditional Odia recipe for the mutton curry.
To begin, marinate the mutton with ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, chili powder, and salt for about 2 hours. Then heat oil in a pan and add whole garam masala (bay leaves, cinnamon stick, cardamom, cloves) and let it crackle. After that, add the marinated mutton and sautéed until it turns brown. Afterward, add chopped onions, tomatoes and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
Once the curry was ready, serve it with hot Chakuli pitha. The combination of the crispy and nutty Chakuli pitha with the flavorful and spicy mutton curry was truly a culinary experience. The Chakuli pitha provided a great balance to the rich and savory curry, making for a satisfying and delicious dinner.
Overall, Chakuli pitha and mutton curry is a great dinner option for those looking for a hearty and flavorful meal. The unique combination of the Chakuli pitha with the mutton curry is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, and it's an authentic Odia dish that everyone should try.
